Two essential pieces of garments, that go alongwith the Sari, need to be chosen carefully to compliment the Sari. These are:
A petticoat - which is a waist-to-floor garment, tied tightly at the waist by a drawstring. The petticoat color should match the base sari color as closely as possible. No part of the petticoat, of course, is visible outside the Sari, after having worn it.
A blouse - which needs to be tight-fitting and whose color needs to be chosen keeping the look of the sari in mind, can be short sleeved or sleeveless, with a variety of necklines. The blouse ends just below the bust.
Other Indian Ways of Wearing a Sari
Different regions of India have their own distinct forms of draping a Sari. Some of these are outlined below:

Gujarati version: This version of draping, ccommonly known as the seedha pallu way, is also found in parts of Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Bihar. Instead of opening to the left, the pleats are tucked so that they open to the right. Then, the pallu is taken to the back and brought over the right shoulder. It is then spread across the chest, and the left edge is tucked in the petticoat at the back.
Maharashtra version: Instead of the usual five-and-a-half meters, the sari in this version measures eight meters. One portion of the sari is drawn up between the legs and tucked in behind at the waist, while another portion is draped as a pallu over the bosom. Thus it forms a kind of divided sari, allowing greater freedom of movement.
Tamilian way: Like the Maharashtra version, the sare in this version, too, measures eight meters. After wrapping around the waist, the pleats are positioned along the left leg. The rest of the sari is taken over the left shoulder, wrapped once again round the waist and tucked on the left side.
Bengali version: The sari is worn pleatless; it is wrapped around the waist, brought back to the right side and the pallu is thrown over the left shoulder. The pallu is then brought up under the right arm and once again cast over the left shoulder.
The most common style of wearing saree is by wrapping one end of the saree around the waist with pleats in front and pinning the neatly folded other end on the left shoulder over the blouse. However women in different parts of India wear saree in their own traditional style.

Kanchipuram silk sarees are hand-woven in the narrow lanes of the quaint town by the same name. In hot dusty Southern India, is an old town called Kanchipuram. It has magnificent temples of unique architectural beauty bearing eloquent testimony to its glorious Dravidian heritage. It’s called the temple city, and is also known as the city of thousand temples. Kanchipuram was under rule of the Pallava Kings from 6th to 7th century AD and later under Cholas, Vijayanagar Kings, the Muslim and the British. It was the historical capital of the Pallavas during when they built some of the best temples in the city.
History has it that Kanchipuram rose to eminence during Krishna-Deva Raya's reign 400yrs back, when two weaving communities - the Devangas and the Saligars transmigrated to Kanchipuram from the neighboring state Andhra Pradesh. Primarily because within this seemingly minuscule town there were more than 129 finely crafted temples, and silk was always considered the ceremonial wear at religious rituals and weddings. The Devanga and Saligar weavers were reputed for their silk weaving silks, even today the main profession of the people living in and around Kanchipuram is weaving silk sarees.

The heavy silk saris with rich weave and gold borders are very popular, especially in South India. Saris are often woven with an extra length of material meant to be cut off and fashioned into a matching choli. The choli may be sewn so that the elaborately woven borders of the sari material form the bottom edges of the choli sleeves. However, cholis need not match the sari. There is a growing trend towards stretchy, comfortable cholis made from knit materials. Indian Wedding Sarees Online Biography
Source(google.com.pk)
A saree (or sari) is a traditional Indian garment, worn in different styles across the country. Sarees from India have always epitomized the country’s culture and date back to the Indus Valley Civilization. The saree is draped by women from all strata of the society and ranges from daily wear to a fashion statement. Sarees from India are available in many different designs and almost every state in the country has a typical and unique style - from the Kanjivaram in Tamil Nadu to the Banarasi in Uttar Pradesh, from the Paithani in Maharashtra to the Ikkat in Orissa. Sarees have traditionally been made from silk or cotton. Sarees from India may be hand-woven or block-printed, and be embellished with gold or silver thread (also known as zari) or with precious stones or crystals. Stepping into a saree shop is like entering a wonderland of colors, designs and fabrics.
Designer Sari - Modern Twist to Tradition
In the recent past, the traditional sari had made way for the comfortable salwar-kameez combination and western clothes, especially among young Indian women. However, it has had a revival lately, with the advent of the designer sari. Usually made from lighter (and manageable) fabrics such as crepe, chiffon and georgette, the designer sari is a bolder statement with strong colors and abstract prints. The traditional sari has been updated by well-known Indian designers such as Tarun Tahiliani and Satya Paul as well by international fashion houses such as Hermes and Louis Vuitton, leaving the fashionista spoiled for choice.
Bridal Sari - Timeless Classic
The most important part of an Indian bride’s trousseau is the bridal sari. Indian weddings usually are elaborate multi-day affairs, with many different rituals and functions and each one demands a new sari. A bridal sari is a traditional one, usually made of silk, with heavy embroidery or embellishments and in a vibrant color, red being the most popular. Each region has its own unique type of sari and the bride generally wears her native, traditional design and style. An indispensable part of an Indian wedding, the sari gives an elegant aura to the bride on her special day.

Sarees at south Indian Hindu weddings

What does the bride wear?
For most brides in south India, there aren’t just one to two sarees to be worn, but plenty. In fact in some customs and traditions, the bride goes through no less than 10 sarees in a span of three to four days! The different states in the south have different rituals and ceremonies. So for each of these ceremonies the bride is supposed to wear different sarees. Most of these brides wear silk sarees. No south Indian bride can truly be a bride, without wearing a traditional silk saree. No compromise is made on the quality of silk. For most weddings, the most expensive and elaborate sarees are selected from Kanchipuram silks or Mysore silk sarees. These sarees are woven from the highest quality of silk and the work is done by master weavers. Most wedding sarees are yellow or red with rich golden work. The pallus are heavy laden with embroidery or other work. These sarees also have elaborate work on the border. Wedding sarees when draped around any bride make her look absolutely beautiful and grand. These sarees maybe heavy and difficult to manage at times but are absolutely worth it, as the bride looks just like a princess when adorned in a silk saree.
Draping a saree correctly is also very important. In different parts of India sarees are draped differently. So is the case with weddings, where some sarees are around 9 yards long! Here, at different rituals different sarees are worn and draped differently. It is very difficult for the bride to manage to drape such a saree all by herself, usually three or four women help her out in the process.
Young girls and women
South Indian weddings are also being influenced slowly by the culture in the north and other modern influences. Many families adopt both traditional and modern rituals and practices. This can even be seen in the type of clothes that women wear to such weddings. Earlier only silk sarees could be seen. But now many women wear fancy sarees which are inspired by the latest trends and fashion. Even Bollywood styles play an important role in influencing what women wear at a wedding. Women opt for sarees made of different materials that may not necessarily be made of pure silk. For example cotton, nylon, chiffon, crepe and so on.
In many south Indian weddings nowadays, women wear ghagra cholis, salwaar suits, lehengas and so on, which was traditionally seen only at weddings in the north. These dresses are also quite elegant and look gorgeous on young girls and women. These are very popular among the younger generation as they are easy to wear and handle and look very beautiful too! The anarkali is a very popular garment that is trending currently. It is a kind of salwaar suit, with the salwaar being long and flowy. Ghagras and lehengas have elaborate work on their blouses and the skirts. The way the chunni is worn also makes a huge difference to the overall look of the dress.
